Who We Are
Russ Allen has more than two decades of experience as a full-time, professional writer, editor, and communications-team member and team leader. He formed The Writers Studio in 1995 to bring the highest-level copywriting services to clients in a range of fields, with ongoing capability to scale services in a communications and copywriting agency and writers group.
Russ has a lifelong expertise in healthcare but writes for a range of other industries as well. He has extensive experience in project management and a proven record in helping to plan and creatively conceptualize written and visual communications in all media. His clients include major medical centers and health systems, and software solutions companies, as well as enterprises in education and industry. He has broad skills as a generalist freelance writer and special experience in science and technical subject matter in both promotional and academic formats.
Russ can also help to coordinate projects as an outsourced extension of his clients’ in-house communication staffs.
Russ Allen was previously a Marketing Writer and then Director of Medical Communications at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he led a staff of writers providing communications to professional and consumer audiences. At the university, Russ had earlier worked as a Development/Fundraising Writer. He has also served as Director of Communications at Arcadia University’s Center for Study Abroad. Russ has a Master of Science in science and technical communications, magna cum laude, from Drexel University. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, cum laude, from the University of Virginia. He has both research and clinical experience in healthcare. Earlier in his career he served as a senior patient-care technician at Jefferson Medical College. In addition to medical laboratory positions in the US and abroad, he also completed three research internships at the National Institutes of Health as well as a year of science studies at the University of Pennsylvania. As part of his pro bono work, Russ serves as President of the Board of the Clean Air Council. |
